

Collaboration: Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and Hawaii Innovative Knowledge Institute
Program: Youth Peace Symposium based at Pearl Harbor National Memorial Theaters
Goal: Virtual peace discussion between Hawaii and Japan youth focused on the path towards reconciliation between two nations, peace initiatives within the community and our world.
Accomplishments:

Local high school and middle school students presented their research and interpretation of a chosen exhibit through a virtual guided tour at Pearl Harbor National Memorial. Historical research also connected to the reconciliation between two nations.

Local university students shared their peace initiative that were implemented in their community.

Nagasaki University students presented their comparison of visitor experience at Pearl Harbor National Memorial and the Nagasaki Peace Museum.

Hawaii and Nagasaki youth representatives participated in a peace panel discussion using questions generated from Hawaii and Japan youth.
Testimony:
“I learned that peace begins with me. When peace is within me, I can share the message with my community and the world though my actions and perspective. It was an amazing experience to be a part of a peace discussion with students from Japan. This was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget” (Middle school participant)
